| Henry Kendal | I have been researching my ancestors who lived in Dalton-in-Furness in the 1800's. My great-grandfather, Henry Kendall, was born in Dalton in 1840. He was the fiirst child born of Robert and Sarah Kendall, born in approx. 1805 and 1816 in Aldingham and Kirkby, respectively. Robert was a mining agent for several mines in the area and his son, Henry, was the manager of the Roanhead Mine from 1870 - 1875. Henry married Mary (maiden name unknown). They had 6 children, (all baptized at St. Mary's) before Mary committed suicide in approx. 1877. Henry and his children moved to America in 1879. Henry left behind his parents and three sisters, Elizabeth, Ann and Jane. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to know if there are any relatives living in the area. Thank you for your time and consideration. Nancy Eckler, nancyeckler@yahoo.com |

| Newshams | My grandfather, Ernest Newsham, was born in Dalton-in-Furness about 1888. He came to America at age 16 with his younger brother, Tom and eventually settled in Seattle, Washington. He started as a coal miner, then was a miners union official, and finally bought a coal company (The Continental Fuel Company) in 1924 and ran the business until he sold it in 1943. I understand that there are still Newshams in the Dalton area. I would like to know more about the family. When I tried to talk to him about his family he was not too clear about the subject. He apparently had at least one sister and one other brother, but probably more. I would very much appreciate any information about the Newshams. Regards, Bill Shaw PO Box 1088 Rainier, WA 98576 |

| Millican family | I am trying to trace any descendants of Watson and Lavinia Millican who are my great grandparents on my fathers side. They lived at 39 Sharp Street in 1880s and had 7 children,Jacob, Josiah,Thomas,Mary, Agnes my grandmother, Lavinia and Martha. At some time Agnes was married to William Bettany but he died soon after and she remarried in 1902. Also I know that Mary married a William Bassnett in 1882. My great grandmother died about 1907 but I cannot trace Watsons death. Its the first time I have visited this site and it will be a great help to people. Thanks very much. Regards.
